Planning for transportation improvements is a continuous process that involves local governments, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), stakeholders with a key interest in potential improvements (such as business and property owners) and the general public. The purpose of this web site is to provide all parties with up-to-date information on the progress of four corridor studies currently being conducted in the Danville-Pittsylvania Urbanized Area. Representing the local governments in this process is the Danville-Pittsylvania Metropolitan Planning Organization, or the MPO.
Recognizing that funding constraints continue to reduce the likelihood of major improvements, three of the four corridor studies focus on enhancing the existing transportation system with low cost safety and operational improvements, management of access and expanding mode choices. The four studies are:
